Doing Things That Scare You

In late 2000, I stood on the edge of an airplane door, heart racing like a cheetah on Red Bull. I was a few days away from leaving for 2 years to Holland and Belgium, and I needed a last hoorah.

Despite loving fast and wild adventures, skydiving was new. The ground looked like a distant quilt, and my stomach was auditioning for Cirque du Soleil.

Terrified, but that fear was the thrill.

When the instructor said jump, I hesitated. But being strapped to someone taller than me, he stood up and jumped and I had no choice :)

It was relaxing, falling to the earth. Feels no different than floating on water just a lot of wind.

Scariest part? LANDING.

Yup. Because you lay your legs straight forward like youre sitting on a raft in the pool, and skid on the grass on your ass until you stop. All I could think of was "wtf? What if there's a metal stake in the ground?!"

Go do something you're avoiding because of fear.
