Meteorology isn't astrology. Astrology is pattern-matching on vibes with zero feedback loop.
Growing up, I never understood why there was a weather channel or weather section in the news.
Why on earth does anyone care what the weather MIGHT be like? It either is or isn't, its pointless.
People goto school to learn more about something that doesn't matter. It snowed, or it didn't. It's raining or it's not.
Meteorologists are wrong constantly and they know exactly how wrong they are.
They publish confidence intervals.
They update their models.
They have skin in the game every single day at 6pm when reality shows up and embarrasses them on live television.
You know what IS astrology for people who own rain gauges? Most business forecasting. Q3 projections built on Excel models that haven't been right since 2019. TAM calculations that assume everyone who could theoretically buy your product will definitely buy your product. That's not meteorology. That's reading tea leaves and calling it strategy.
You want to be mad at prediction theater? Be mad at the analysts who downgrade a stock after it already dropped 40 percent. Be mad at the consultants who tell you what happened last quarter and charge you for foresight. Be mad at anyone who says "we couldn't have predicted" something that was obviously coming.
Meteorologists at least have the decency to tell you they're guessing in percentages with a radar.
