On February 9th, I sat restless in the most uncomfortable chair ever, while Lindsey lie in pain on the bed begging for the epidural. Going along with the known fact that I, Jake, have the worst luck ever, let it be known that all other rooms had couches and recliners except for ours. So for 12+ hours I too sat tired weary and in pain counting the minutes for Tyler to be born. My complaints went unheard as I was just as obsolete as the backless chair I sat in.
After 2 1/2 hours of pushing and screaming it was finally decided that he would have to join us via a C-Section. Lindsey quickly signed the papers and we patiently waited for the doctor to give the ok. When he re-entered into the room, a swarm of 8 nurses followed pushing carts, carrying buckets, tools the works. During the next 4 minutes, the doctor attached what looked to be a turkey baster to the top of Tyler's head and proceeded to pump a ball at the end. This means of 'vacuuming' the baby out, replaced the traditional use of forceps apparently. It worked like a charm, and seconds later the middle linebacker was in our arms. Tyler Vern weighed in at 10lbs 14oz and was 22 inches tall.
Tyler has now been with us for 3 weeks, and we have learned and enjoyed it all! After carrying him for 9 1/2 months, Lindsey has regained control of her body and lost 45 lbs. Tyler enjoys his sleeping time, and loves to scream and be awake from 1am - 5am also. We are still trying to share his enthusiasm for this.
